Thinking of You Week 2020

Hello, it's my first week back to the blog in what feels like an age. 2020 what a year!
I’m very happy to return at this time to Thinking of You Week. I’ve taken part in this for a few years now but in the current climate of social distancing it’s never been more important to be in touch with loved ones. I’ve been writing out these lovelies I created for Katie Phythian Design, drawn with a rainbow - which is very apt considering I did them pre 2020! I loved this story Katie posted on instagram about handing out cards during lockdown and the response she received. It shows that the written word, inside a thoughtful greeting card can make the all difference to ensure our friends, family and loved ones have that connection in these strange times.

Summertime

Well had 2020 gone to plan I would now be posting with all the latest from the Progressive Greetings Live show in London. I'm pleased to hear the show is confirmed to return next year. I am already looking forward to seeing everyone and catching up on the industry buzz.

As a form of lockdown continues through the Summer it unfortunately means I won't be returning to the Karika Nova blog until the autumn when my little ones are more fully back in school and nursery. In the meantime I will be continuing work on new exciting projects for 2021 -  I can't wait to share these with you. Wishing everyone the best for the Summer, keep well, see you all soon x

Spring Break

It's that time of year again when I'm taking a little seasonal break from the Karika Nova blog. It's a little sooner this March owing to early preschool closure, unusual times! I will be continuing work on exciting new releases and projects for launch later in the year. In the meantime catch me on Instagram + twitter for updates. Wishing you all a lovely Mothering Sunday and a happy Easter. Keep well xxx

Luminaire Spring Season

It's starting to feel like spring here in Manchester, with that in mind and Mother's Day next week I thought it'd be a good time to share some extra photos from the Luminaire Spring collection.

Designed for Katie Phythian Design, the Luminaire collection features a fresh colour palette with painterly washes on a textured watercolour style FSC certified board. The seasonal illustrations inspired by Katie's travels in France include classic hearts, fabulous flowers, easter eggs and balloons. Following on from the Valentine's seen earlier on the Karika Nova blog there's Mothers Day, Easter & Father's Day now available in the shops.

Carson Ellis - Home

It's World Book Day tomorrow and following on from my last post on the fabulous John Rylands Library it seemed like a good time to take a look at our new favourite book here - Carson Ellis's Home. The fabulous book takes us on a journey through the many different types of homes from houses in the country, flats in the city, homes on buses, boats and even a shoe. At the end we find the artist herself in her studio looking at the objects which inspired the book. The illustrations are beautiful and unique. Along with Alemagna's Do Nothing Day Carson's Home most certainly has pride of place on our book shelf.

John Rylands Library

After a fun but rainy half term break I thought I'd share a little creative inspo from this month's visit to the wonderful John Rylands Library. The Manchester Library was recently rated one of the most beautiful in Europe on google reviews and the only UK library to make the list. It houses a rare collection of works featuring the oldest known piece of the new testament. I was especially interested in the exhibition pieces with unique fonts & illustrations. I also loved the intriguing old printing presses on show which give a real connection with the history of print - I'd personally like to see more of this.
The architecture is most definitely the showstopper. The building is mostly made from one material, shawk sandstone, and is so effective. Even the lighting is one of a kind and made to resemble the cotton plant of Manchester's heritage. It has an unusual blue purple glow and gives quite a magical look - little wonder the building is often compared to Hogwarts.
So lovely to have the opportunity to spend some time appreciating printed works and such a beautiful space. I'll certainly be popping back to the gift shop too!
