Summer Break

Well summer is here and we've had a lot of rain so far, I'm hoping the sun will stay for August! I'm taking a little seasonal break from the Karika Nova blog. I'll be back in the autumn with news on the exciting new SS20 projects I've been working on. In the mean time I'll catch you on instagram. Happy holidays! See you all soon x

Pearl Drops

It's most definitely been a packed year so far, fantastically there's even more new product news on the Karika Nova blog this week. Samples have just arrived of the latest collection for 2019, Pearl Drops. A delightful effervescent greetings range I created in a new collaboration this year with Portfolio Cards. Launched along with the Tiger Lily at Progressive Greetings Live 2019, the Pearl Drops everyday cards feature a unique iridescent foil on crisp white environmentally friendly board. The design style uses delicate fine lines, glistening gems, beautiful foiling and fizzy confetti-like drops to illustrate those special celebration moments. The classic icons inspired by all things twinkly feature heart balloons, blossom trees, bubbly champagne and starry skies. Each design is hand finished in the UK and is packed with a pearlised envelope. Soon to be available in the shops.

The World Exists To Be Put On A Postcard

On a recent trip to London I popped over to the British Museum to see their Postcard exhibition, the wordily named 'The World Exists To Be Put On a Postcard'. The collection focuses on postcards created by artists rather than those that just reproduce an artist's work. It's an interesting idea and I enjoyed the work shown however I would like to have seen more especially considering the very long trek to find the show in the depths of the museum! The pin board installation, designed to give the impression of an artists studio, unfortunately had the opposite effect and appeared rather stuffy. That said, it's great to see the humble postcard being given some space to shine. It has certainly motivated me to send some, I've included some artist inspired postcard top picks below.

above clockwise from the top left: susan hiller - the flying spray - composite of 12 found postcards of rough seas, a view of the exhibition space, snap of the main museum atrium, love these inspiring female artist postcards - including kusama - by emma block illustration, unfortunately i didn't note the artist of these scenic cards - i love how they play with the traditional postcard composition, a pack of vintage postcards available on etsy, these abstract geometric postcards by kate lancaster pick up on some of the themes in the show,  loved this set of art and language postcards from 1977 - reminded me of some of gfsmith's work.

Aurora

Excitingly there's even more design news on the Karika Nova blog this week. Following on from the best selling Cobalt range, Aurora is a brand new lovely uplifting greetings collection I created for Cinnamon Aitch. The range, named Aurora after the Roman goddess of the dawn who travelled east to west to announce the coming of the sun, features a beautiful shimmering golden foil. The little illustrations accompanying gently positive sentiments include cosmic stars, suns, beaming medals, friendly flowers and hearts. The Aurora design style picks up on the antique lino printing and traditional card making techniques. The new collection is printed in the UK, packed with a natural fibre envelope and available with a contemporary counter top display. Launched in June at PG Live 2019 and is now in the shops.
